Our story begins in Boston, where co-founders Scott Caras, Peter Crommett and Ted Upton lived and spent too much time working for the man. Unsatisfied with the day-to-day office grind, the three partners left corporate America and joined forces with fellow co-founder Max Key of Denver to found Cheeky. The four of us sought to create something special in an industry we love. After all, we are fishing addicts … inspired by that heart-pounding moment when a fish explodes on the surface and all hell breaks loose.

In 2009, we set out to deliver products aligned with our passion for fishing. For two years, we devoted our lives to designing, developing and testing Cheeky Fly Reels, our very first products. As experienced fishermen, we knew we had to deliver a flawless product from day one.  Fishermen demand performance, quality and reliability from their equipment. When the fish of a lifetime strikes, we wanted to ensure Cheeky Reels would deliver unparalleled performance.

In 2011, we launched our first fly reels to the public. In 2013, Cheeky extended its manufacturing expertise and mechanical knowledge of reels to the spinning market. It took another 18 months before the company was ready to launch its spinning reels. Our goal was to bring the ultimate spinning reels to market, emphasizing innovation, performance, durability and design, and one fact gave us the confidence to do just that:We know how to design them, we know how to manufacture them, we know the materials, machining processes and tolerances, and we know how to build the best drag systems around.  So that’s exactly what we did.

In 2015, Cheeky launched two lines of high performance spinning reels, the FLOTR Series, designed for freshwater angling, and the CYDRO Series, designed for the salt.In conjunction with its 2015 spinning reel launch, Cheeky also launched two all-new lines of fly reels, the Tyro Series and the Spey Series, to compliment its existing Performance and Boost Series fly reels.

Now with six lines of fishing reels across both fly and spin, Cheeky is proud to offer a reel for every angling situation.
